Serena Shocked in US Semis

Last night, Kim Clijsters shocked Serena Williams by defeating the world number 2 in straight sets to book her place in this year's US Open final.

The returning Belgian deserved to win this match after bossing the points and taking advantage of Serena's poor service game that allowed Clijsters to win many points on second serve. She took the first set 6-4 against a surprisingly poor performing Serena Williams.

To think the 11-time Grand Slam champion would step up in the second set, we were somewhat disappointed as Kim Clijsters continued to take the game to Williams, who was only getting frustrated at her inability to get in control of the match. Too many unforced errors from the American was only helping Clijsters, playing only her 3rd tournament since coming out of a 2 year retirement.

The match point was handed to Clijsters by a point penalty after Serena Williams' frustrated rant at a line judge who had unfairly called a foot fault on second serve that replays show to be a wrong call. Her rant that threated to shove a tennis ball down the line judges throat cost her the match as the umpire handed a point penalty against Williams, having being warned earlier in the match for throwing her broken racket into the net post.

Kim Clijsters moves on to face Caroline Wozniacki in today's US Open final after the Dane came through comfortably in her semi final match 6-3 6-3 against Yanina Wickmayer.
