Phil Gartside's plan to ruin the Premier League

Apparently, the Premier League are meeting this Thursday (23rd) to discuss a plan to split the Premier League into two divisions, as put together by Bolton Wanderers' chairman Phil Gartside.

Gartside wants two divisions of 16 teams, including Glasgow Celtic and Rangers to help with financial stability.

The Premier League is the most popular league in the world, why would you want to make a mockery of it, Mr Gartside? Oh, for your own pocket of course. Bolton, not the most spectacular of places in England haven't had the financial investment that teams in better parts of England, ie London and Manchester have received, and have been unable to compete with the big boys.

I don't even want to think about how the spilt will be made, but I would like to get a copy of the plan to see what ludicrous ideas were in there. Mr Gartside doesn't seem to understand that the 2nd Premier League tier is called the Championship. A very competitive division with a fantastic fanbase.

Gartside just wants more money in his pocket. It is well-known that teams who fall out of the Premier League suffer serious financial problems and often fall another division shortly after. But West Brom have shown that if you're well run you can avoid that. Teams like Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Derby County spent money they didn't have and have ended up with financial problems at some point down the line.

I hear people say it's a shame Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and others have fallen two divisions below the Premier League, of which they have all competed strongly in in bygone days, but to me, that's what makes football exciting. It's not just the same every season. I'm sure season ticket holders of teams in that division were happy to go to the City Ground, Elland Road and Hillsborough.

I don't like the idea of a 39th game in the Premier League, even though the idea came after the success of the NFL coming to London, which I was very happy about, and I think this split is farcical. Fortunately I don't think it will go ahead. The big 4, who often get their way, won't let it happen.
